You should consider a few things before choosing a domain:

  1. Make your domain name easier to remember, because if your domain name is not easy to remember for people, they will end up typing a wrong name and it will not bring them to your website.
  2. Ideally your domain name should represent the name of your organization, it will be an advantage for your organization as well as helpful in branding a corporate identity of your organization.

  4. Keyword based domains are always helpful. If your domain contains any of your most popular or targeted keyword, your half of optimization is already done; because for a given keyword, search engines generally search for available domains first.
  5. Keep your domain names short, because short domain names are easy to type and easy to remember. They are not only helpful for your potential customers but also helpful in your branding. They can easily accommodate on business cards, and your offline marketing materials.
  6. You should prefer dot-com domains, because generally people remember the domain not extension, they assume its dot-com only. It is important when you want to build a successful website generating sales and revenues for you.
  7. If possible and if available book other domains with extensions like dot-net, dot-org, and dot-info matching to your domain, and redirect all of them to your main dot-com domain. It will keep forwarding all the traffic that may go to wrong website due to wrong extensions.

These are some fruitful suggestions for domain name selection. If you follow these conventions, you will certainly end up choosing a perfect domain name for your business.
